Musculoskeletal ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive imaging technique that uses sound waves to create real-time images, making it ideal for investigating a wide range of musculoskeletal problems. 

This type of ultrasound scan is particularly effective for examining superficial soft tissue structures (like tendons and ligaments), though it cannot see inside bones or deep within joints.

Not all ultrasound services are the same. In the UK, only professionals with a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Ultrasound are properly qualified to perform and report ultrasound scans, as recommended by the Royal College of Radiologists. We proudly hold this qualification and we also retain membership with the British Medical Ultrasound Society, ensuring all our scans meet strict medical standards. Additionally, we use a highly advanced Samsung RS80A ultrasound system, providing excellent image clarity comparable to leading NHS departments. This is not a basic, portable system. 

Medical imaging is only one part of the puzzle. That’s why every scan is performed as part of a wider clinical assessment, considering your history, symptoms and physical examination to build a full picture of your condition. If we think you need a different type of medical imaging, or that an ultrasound scan is not needed, we will tell you!

You’ll receive a comprehensive, written medical report with your scan findings. We also accept referrals from other professionals including GP's, physiotherapists, podiatrists, osteopaths and chiropractors, working together to improve access to diagnostic imaging across West Wales.
