Knee ultrasound scans in West Wales

Knee Ultrasound scan in Tenby, Pembrokeshire, West Wales

Fast, accurate diagnosis for knee pain in Pembrokeshire and West Wales

Knee pain that won’t settle?

Struggling with ongoing knee pain, swelling, stiffness, a feeling of instability, or a recent injury can be frustrating - especially when symptoms persist despite rest or treatment. In some cases, a physical examination alone doesn’t fully explain what’s really going on. Diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound allows us to look directly at the soft tissues around the knee in real time, helping to identify the underlying cause of symptoms and guide the most appropriate next steps.

A knee ultrasound scan provides a clear, dynamic view of the tendons, ligaments, muscles, bursae, and joint fluid - helping you get quick answers and move forward with the right plan for recovery.

  • Performed by a qualified musculoskeletal sonographer (PgC in Medical Ultrasound)
  • Hospital-grade imaging system (Samsung RS80A)
  • Full report usually within 48-hours
  • No referral needed (referrals are also accepted)
  • Includes clinical consultation and explanation of findings
  • Safe, comfortable & free from ionizing radiation

Book your scan today - appointments usually available within days.

Why have a knee ultrasound scan?

Knee pain can be caused by many different soft-tissue issues, including tendon problems, ligament sprains, inflammation, bursitis, cysts, post-injury changes, or degenerative conditions. Ultrasound allows us to assess these structures dynamically - even while you move, giving an accurate view of what’s happening inside your knee.

If you’re experiencing pain when walking, climbing stairs, squatting, or after sport, or if your knee feels swollen, unstable, or stiff, a diagnostic ultrasound can help give you fast and clear answers.

Common reasons for a knee scan include:

  • Suspected meniscal cyst
  • Quadriceps or patellar tendinopathy
  • Patellar tracking issues
  • Knee bursitis (prepatellar, suprapatellar, infrapatellar)
  • Swelling, effusion or suspected inflammation
  • Ligament sprains (MCL, LCL)
  • Baker’s cyst assessment
  • Post-surgical monitoring
  • Pain following a fall, twist, or sports injury

What to expect during your appointment

You can book directly – no referral is needed (although they are accepted). If you self-refer, we will start with a new patient consultation to ensure ultrasound is appropriate for your condition.

Your appointment includes:

  • Clinical history and safety screening
  • High-resolution diagnostic ultrasound scan of the knee
  • Full written report, typically within 48 working hours
  • Advice on next steps and referral options if required

Ultrasound is safe, comfortable, and radiation-free - and ideal for soft-tissue knee injuries.

What ultrasound cannot assess

While ultrasound is excellent for visualising soft tissues, it cannot:

  • Assess deep meniscal tears inside the joint
  • Assess cruciate ligaments (ACL / PCL)
  • Visualise deep cartilage surfaces
  • Assess bone marrow or internal joint structures

If MRI or X-ray would be more appropriate, we’ll explain why and guide you to trusted private partners.

Why choose us?

  • Short waiting times
  • Talk directly to a specialist before, during & after your scan
  • GCC-registered clinician
  • Experienced musculoskeletal sonographer with PgC in Medical Ultrasound
  • Clinical report typically within 48-working hours
  • Serving Tenby, Pembrokeshire & all of West Wales

We combine accurate diagnosis with clear guidance - so you know exactly what to do next.
